Building For Americas Bravest

Carpet One Floor & Home is proud to form a new partnership with the Building for America's Bravest program. Building for America’s Bravest is a program of The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, in proud partnership with the Gary Sinise Foundation, which was developed to build smart homes for catastrophically injured service members.

As the program’s official flooring provider, Carpet One Floor & Home will be supplying flooring and installation for the construction of these smart home. There are currently 55 service members on the list to receive smart homes – 6 smart homes have already been built; there are 49 homes scheduled to be built over the next 3 years.

We are excited to get started with this new Carpet One Cares initiative. And we’re honored to have our manufacturer partner Mohawk working side-by-side with us. They generously agreed to supply the product for these projects.

The first home Carpet One Floor & Home will be working on is in Tampa, FL. The local stores there – Dove Interiors Carpet One Floor & Home in Ruskin, FL and Hanover Floors Carpet One in Tampa, FL – are excited to participate in giving one of America’s heroes a new home.

Sgt. Michael Nicholson is the brave individual receiving this new home.

On July 6, 2011, Sgt. Nicholson was on combat foot patrol when he was injured by an IED in Afghanistan, causing him to lose both legs and his left arm and suffer a brain injury.

Eight months after arriving at the National Naval Medical Center, Sgt. Michael Nicholson came home to Tampa, Florida greeted by thousands of supporters. At his church, he spoke to the crowd, “I just want to ask for one more thing; please pray for the guys still in Afghanistan right now and for the soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines recovering in Bethesda, San Antonio and Balboa. Pray for the ones who didn’t make it back.”

After riding in the motorcade from Tampa Airport to his church, which included over 100 Patriot Guard Riders, he said, “That still blows my mind. I never expected all those people to show up. I am still awestruck about all of this. They have done so much for me, I wish I could do something for them.”

At a time when he was struggling with his own life-altering injuries, Michael was not asking anything for himself, only thinking of his fellow military who are still in need of prayers and support, and for all those who never returned... only wondering what he could do for others.
